Privacy Policy

This page explains what AppFixly (“we”, “the site”) collects when you visit appfixly.xyz, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be impressive, so it is shorter than most.

The short version

We do not ask you to register, and we do not sell anything. The only information you hand over directly is what you type into a comment or an email. Everything else is the ordinary automatic record any web server keeps, plus cookies set by the advertising networks whose ads appear on these pages.

Information you give us

Comments. If you leave a comment, the name, email address and website you enter are stored, along with your IP address and browser user-agent string. WordPress uses these to show the comment and to help catch spam. Your email address is not published and is not passed to anyone else. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service so that a profile picture can be shown; Gravatar’s own privacy policy governs what it does with that.

Email. If you write to us, we keep the message so we can answer it and refer back to it if you write again. We do not add you to any mailing list.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, our server records the address of each request: your IP address, the page asked for, the referring page, the date and time, and your browser and operating system. This is used to keep the site working, to see which guides people actually read, and to investigate abuse.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep. This site involves three kinds:

  • Necessary cookies — set by WordPress. If you leave a comment, a cookie remembers your name and email so you need not retype them. Logging in to the site’s admin area sets session cookies. Without these the site cannot work properly.
  • Functional cookies — used by features on the site that need to remember where you are in something across pages, for example a page-by-page guide or an interactive tool. They hold no personal information and expire on their own.
  • Advertising cookies — set by the third-party advertising networks described below, not by us. These are the ones used to decide which ads you see and to measure whether they worked.

You can delete cookies and refuse new ones in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies will break commenting; blocking advertising cookies will not stop ads appearing, it will only make them less relevant.

Advertising

AppFixly is funded by advertising. Ads are served by third-party advertising networks. We do not choose the individual ads shown to you, and we are not given your identity by these networks.

Those networks and their partners may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites, in order to show advertising they judge to be relevant, to limit how often you see the same ad, and to measure the effect of their campaigns. That information may include your IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and browser type, and the pages you viewed.

Each network’s own privacy policy governs how it handles that data — not this one. To understand or control what a particular network does, read its policy and use its opt-out. Two general opt-out tools cover many networks at once:

Most browsers also offer a setting to limit or block third-party cookies, which is the blunter and more reliable option.

Analytics

If and when we use an analytics service to see which pages are read, it is used in aggregate — to know that a guide was opened four hundred times, not to follow any individual around. Any analytics provider in use is subject to its own privacy policy.

Links to other sites

Guides here link to app stores, developer pages and documentation. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else’s site under somebody else’s rules, and this policy no longer applies. We have no control over what those sites collect.

Children

This site is written for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and it will be deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to object to certain processing. If you have left a comment, you can ask for an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to erase it. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security reasons.

To make any of these requests, write to contact@appfixly.xyz. Note that for data held by the advertising networks, the request has to go to them — we cannot reach into their records.

How long things are kept

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies make sense. Emails are kept as long as they are useful for answering you. Server logs are kept for a short period and then discarded.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS and kept up to date. No website can promise perfect security, and this one does not. Please do not send anything sensitive to us by email.

Changes to this policy

If what we do changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will be noted on the page rather than slipped in quietly.
